The purpose of this code is to allow the user to search for spells of longer than one day when certain variables averaged/totalled over the spell using meteorological observations made at the University of Reading exceeded a specified limit.
Such a search might be done to find a drought longer than a specific length, when the mean temperature over n days exceeded a specified value, or when the average soil temperature at 30 cm depth was less than a certain value over m days, for example.The program will search the entire record of the meteorological record, for all days/months/years (this may take a few seconds)
